Success is rarely a straight path—it’s a series of bold decisions, calculated risks, and unwavering commitment to growth. For many, the leap from the comfort of employment to the challenges of entrepreneurship feels daunting. Yet, it is in embracing uncertainty that true potential can be discovered.
This is the story of my journey from employee to entrepreneur a transformation driven by passion, adaptability, and a relentless pursuit of creativity.

Early Career and Growing Experience
My career began over a decade ago after earning my Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production from MCAST. My first role was as a social media content creator for one of Malta’s leading radio stations, where I developed a strong foundation in content creation. Alongside this, I started taking on freelance projects, which introduced me to the self-employment sector.
Soon after, I moved into graphic design, refining my skills and expanding my creative portfolio. This was followed by a role as an Events Coordinator at an established events company, where I managed client relationships, conceptualised event themes, and oversaw end-to-end event delivery. Throughout this period, I continued freelancing, knowing that one day I might fully transition into self-employment.
Taking the Leap
Deciding to leave the stability of a salaried position for the uncertainty of freelancing is never easy. The “when” was a question I often pondered, ensuring I had the necessary experience and resources to minimize risks.
The turning point came in 2020 with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many others, I faced significant disruptions. With events halted and work hours reduced, I had to reassess my priorities. Rather than waiting for normalcy to return, I seized the opportunity to focus on my creative passions.

Establishing SALT Studio
Together with my now business partner, Chris, I co-founded SALT Studio—a creative agency dedicated to enhancing brands. Combining my expertise in content creation with Chris’ skills in digital marketing, we began helping businesses establish and grow their online presence.
From its inception, SALT Studio focused on building a reliable and trustworthy brand. Tools like Xero allowed us to streamline financial management, while clear communication and well-defined guidelines ensured strong client relationships. Our name, “SALT,” reflects our mission: just as salt enhances flavor, we aim to elevate brands by bringing their ideas to life. Our tagline, “Seasoning Ideas,” encapsulates this vision.

Lessons Learned as an Entrepreneur
Running a business is a continuous learning experience. It requires balancing creativity with strategy, maintaining loyalty to clients, and adapting to challenges. Building a brand goes far beyond creating a logo; it involves crafting a cohesive identity and delivering consistent value.
This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the support of those who believed in me. Transitioning to self-employment has been both challenging and rewarding, proving that the right timing and preparation are key. For anyone contemplating a similar leap, trust in your abilities—you might just create something incredible.
